Clyde & Seek is a free daily word puzzle. You don't need an account to play, and playing never requires your name, email address or other contact details. This page explains what information is collected when you play, why, and the choices you have.
When you play a puzzle, our server records a game record with:
We use game records to run the game and to produce site-wide statistics, such as the “Everyone” scores shown after you solve a puzzle. Unless you turn on score history (below), a game record isn't linked to you or your device.
If you choose to track your scores, we create a random ID and store it in your browser, both in local storage and in a cookie that lasts up to 400 days. That ID is how we recognize your browser later. It doesn't contain your name or any personal details.
Your history is stored on our server under that ID: games played, scores, hints, times, which puzzles you've played and your keyboard layout preference. Your games are linked to the ID so your history and stats can be shown to you.
To move your history to another browser or device, you can get a History ID code from the History page. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of the code, never the code itself, so we can't look it up or show it again. Anyone who has your code can load your history, so keep it private; getting a new code cancels the old one. If you enter a code on a device that already has its own history, the two histories are combined.
You can turn history off at any time from the win screen or the History page. Turning it off deletes your history and removes the link between your ID and your past games. The game records themselves stay, without the link, as part of the site-wide statistics.
On the History page you can sign in with Google so your score history follows you to any device. Sign-in is handled by Supabase, our sign-in provider. When you sign in, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with Supabase, which keeps them in its account record for you.
On our side, we store only your Supabase account ID, linked to your history ID. We don't store your name, email or picture with your history, and we don't show them on the site. Your browser keeps a sign-in session so you stay signed in.
Signing out affects only the device you sign out on, and removes the history copies stored in that browser; your history stays saved and comes back when you sign in again. Stopping tracking while signed in deletes your history and removes the link to your Google account on every device. To also have your sign-in record deleted from Supabase, email us at the address below.
To make the game work, your browser also keeps your in-progress puzzle, the dates you've played, your archive puzzle scores and any results waiting to be sent to our server. These stay on your device; clearing your browser's site data removes them.
We use two third-party tools to understand how people find and use the site:
Both load on our pages and set their own cookies. They collect information such as the pages you visit, your browser and device type, and your IP address, and both record when you solve a puzzle. Google and TikTok handle this information under their own policies:
You can also block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or use a content blocker. The game still works.
Like most websites, our hosting provider (Amazon Web Services) logs each request made to the site, including your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. We use these logs to keep the site running and to fix problems. Request logs are deleted after 90 days, and application logs after 14 days.
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
